Facility Maintenance: New Year’s Resolutions

Facility Maintenance: New Year’s Resolutions

At the beginning of every year, people all over the world will make commitments toward better habits, personal growth, or ambitious goals. It’s a time to plan out how we’ll improve our lives. It’s also a great time to set objectives for the properties you own or manage. Your facility can finally have an updated break room like you’ve wanted for years or establish a monthly maintenance schedule. Whatever it may be, the beginning of the year is a great time to budget and set aside funding for improvements.

| Construction

There are all kinds of construction projects you could do to spruce up your facility. From updating counters and cabinets to full building additions, there’s an affordable option to fit almost any facility’s budget. The important thing is to make sure that money is well-spent. Sure, you could build a beautiful, new fountain. But if that fountain is placed in front of a building that desperately needs its windows replaced, the effect is lost. This is where a design-build construction firm can help. They can take a look at your facility and work within your budget to give you the best bang for your buck. All it takes is a little planning.

| Plumbing

Plumbing resolutions might sound a little weird, but remember that we’re trying to improve the facility. There’s little that’s more important than a reliable plumbing system. The beginning of the year is a great time to look at the past year’s plumbing issues and calls to see if there’s a trend that could be addressed. Pull up your past work orders and invoices, spend some time reviewing issues, and contact your commercial plumber. Maybe it’s time to re-pipe part of the facility, improve drainage systems, or replace fixtures to stop leaks. Whatever the issue, spend some time at the beginning of the year to make a plan for your plumbing system.

| Electrical

Electrical improvements can cover anything from repairs to fun projects. There’s a lot you can do with the right application of electric power, but as with the other services it’s smart to plan an effective use of your budget. The number of facilities making the switch to LED lighting has been increasing due to the power savings, so that’s a great place to start if you haven’t done it already. EV charging stations have been popular as well. Beyond those, be sure to plan for preventative maintenance, including sonic testing and infrared testing, in order to keep your facility’s electrical systems in good condition throughout the year.

| Repair & Maintenance

Last on our list, but certainly not least, is the category of general repair & maintenance. This is where you should budget for practical necessities and finishing touches. Think about cracks in walls or floors that could use a quick patch up or rooms that need a fresh coat of paint. Throughout the course of the year, there will always be things that pop up. It’s best to take care of them quickly before they grow into larger problems. If you already have a scheduled maintenance plan in place, you’re in good shape and should be able to knock these out easily.
